I’m not being conceited when I say that Brad and I are the cutest couple ever. Seriously. I’m being 100% objective here. We’re so dang cute. Everyone needs to be like us. 😂😂😂
Okay, but tbh, we really are in love. And I think that shows. Nearly every wedding we shoot, people ask us “Soooo are you guys together?” as we’re holding hands or kissing. Lol Maybe it’s the love in the air at weddings that makes us so romantic. Who really knows? Whatever it is, we spend basically the whole time flirting with each other. So we wanted to write a little blog post about what we do to stay in love.
Oh, and we included some photos to prove how much we love each other. All photos were taken by our bff Jason Lucas Photography.
We are best friends:
I guess this takes a little more work than it seems. But basically, Brad and I want to be together all the time. We sure appreciate our alone time, but if we have the option, we’ll choose each other. That sometimes takes effort. It takes realizing that we haven’t had quality time in a few days and making a choice to have quality time together. Life gets busy. There’s no stopping that. But instead of turning on the tv when we sit down with food, we’ll put on some music and just chat. We’ll ask each other what our favorite part of the day was, what we ate for lunch, or whatever else will spark a bit of conversation.
We laugh together every day. It really just takes choosing to make the mood light. It’s not like we never say offensive things. I’m sure if we wanted, we could fight all the time. But instead of getting offended by something small, we’ll give each other the benefit of the doubt. We laugh it off! As my family said growing up, “if you’re looking for offense, you’ll find one in the front yard.” I guess this works better when you say it instead of write it.
We keep the bedroom a tech-free zone.:
I mean, obviously this isn’t a hard and fast rule, but we leave our phones on the kitchen counter to charge overnight. When we get in bed, that’s our time talk, not text. Mindless scrolling is saved for the couch.
No TV either. Don’t get me wrong; we definitely watch a lot of tv, but at least there’s one space that doesn’t have a screen. When we’re going to bed, we’re really going to bed.
We touch each other:
Okay weird that we need to have this on a list, but yes. We make a point to touch each other whenever we’re within reaching distance. Passing in the hallway? Drag your hands across his back. Standing in line for Salt & Straw? Arm around his waist. Saying bye before work? Kiss. Yeah, actually smooch him on the lips. WOW CRAZY. We always choose to sit next to each other on the couch. I’m sure we make people uncomfortable, but it’s important for our relationship.
HUG. I’m not a hugger. I’m really not, but hugging Brad is my favorite thing to do. Try hugging your partner for an entire minute today. Don’t talk. Just hug.
We argue with our noses touching.:
This is a funny one we’ve been doing since we were dating. We don’t argue that often, but when we do, we have a rule that we have to fight with our noses touching. Yes. We sit face to face and put our noses together. I tend to want to just hide my face and emotions, so this forces me to actually look at Brad in the face. It’s hard to raise your voice at all if your partner is an inch away from you. It kinda puts our problems into perspective by reminding us that we’re the most important thing, and whatever issue we’re having can’t come between us. And we end up laughing and kissing. Seriously. TRY IT. You’ll thank me later.
Overall, I feel extremely lucky to have married such an even-tempered guy. And I’m even luckier that my parents raised me to be equally chill. No matter what happens, we both remember that we’re on the same team. There’s nothing more important than that.
*disclaimer #2* we haven’t had kids yet, and I know those certainly cause strain on relationships. But I know we can make it through anything.
Again, thanks to Jason Lucas Photography for taking these amazing photos.
